How To Revitalise Your Style This Spring

how to revitalise your style this spring feature image

Though it seems to have taken forever, finally the days are brightening and the rain is easing up as we start moving into spring. It makes it a perfect time to try out some new styles, and here at Acorn we’re looking at some of the ways you can freshen up your wardrobe this spring.

Going To Print

With the sun finally coming out, we’ve got a little more natural light to enjoy, so why not make the best of it by mixing some brighter colours into your outfit? A colourful print over the top of a more neutral, subdued layer can create a look that radiates with just the right amount of character, but without going overboard by looking garish. Printed cotton shirts are great for those cautious beer garden outings, or maybe a low-key garden party on the weekend as you road-test the weather for summer. Make sure to give printed fabrics the respect they deserve though, and don’t layer them with anything that might be considered too bright or bold. Your outfit can only process so much colour at once, so anything else that draws too much attention can make the whole ensemble seem far too loud. Give your prints the space to breathe by choosing neutral, unassuming colours for any other layers.

Check This Fabric Out

Checked shirts have a lot going for them, but undoubtedly one of the greatest is their versatility. They offer a veritable ton of colours to choose from, whatever your mood or style. It’s one of the many things that make them such a great fabric for personal expression – and after all, besides the odd seasonal practicality, what else is an outfit for? Lighter checks like the Fife 20 brown check fabric are perfect for giving your outfit a lighter, breezier feel to suit the changing weather, while a Hampton 501 red check fabric is definitely the preferred choice if you’re going for a smarter look for workwear. The thickness of checked fabrics can sometimes vary, too, so it’s something you’ll want to watch out for before you grab your wallet. Nobody wants to be too hot and bothered before summer’s already properly begun, especially if you’re otherwise looking ‘cool’.

Linen Fabric

It’s true that given its weight, linen is most often associated with being a summer fabric. But that’s no reason that you can’t give it an early outing or two! Being a lighter fabric, it’s perfect for easing up a bit from the heavy winter wear you’ve been decked out in for the last few months. Also, like checked shirts, there are a lot of bright colours to choose from – great for injecting some spring/summer sunshine into your wardrobe.

Of course, these are just own suggestions. You might have your own ideas on your best spring styles – so don’t hesitate to try them out! Acorn Fabrics is one of the only shirting mills that engages with and sells directly to end customers. Aside from this, the quality of their fabrics is on par with the likes of Thomas Mason and other big players in the market. Their collection has some uniquely interesting colours and patterns such as a red striped heavy Oxford (my shirtmaker in Naples couldn't find a similar fabric from any other mill) or the cotton-linen Aruba denim. Having browsed through shirting swatches from many other mills, I also think that Acorn has the best collection of Tattersall shirtings anywhere. I've taken several of Acorn's fabrics to Naples with me and had them made into beautiful shirts.

I feel blessed to have discovered them and will definitely look forward to using them again in future. Sal B in Sydney
