How to master the art of casual tailoring

Fashions change but style is permanent, so it’s vital that your tailoring reflects who you really are and shows that you’re moving with the times. One way to do this is to adopt a look that’s smart and superbly tailored, but which is also casual too. (Here at Acorn, we stock a wide range of cotton shirting fabrics which are ideal for that!) In a nutshell, the art is to strike the right balance between not trying too hard, but finding something that’s cool, eye-catching and elegant. Here are some of the best ways to achieve a great casual tailored look.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with your formal wear

Top button fastened, tie around the neck, matching jacket and trousers and shiny black shoes have all been formal wear staples for decades, so it can be easy to get stuck into a pattern of wearing them day in, day out. Thankfully, tailoring and fashion have moved on, even when it comes to formal wear, allowing you more freedom today when at a job interview, in the office or on a boring date. Do away with the tie, and don’t be afraid to swap the collared shirt for a t-shirt, as long as it’s well made and stylish – and ideally in a single colour.

Mix it up your fabric colours

When in formal situations such as weddings, interviews and business events, you’re often limited to a certain type of outfit – one designed with respect to the setting and occasion. Casual tailoring marches to a different drum, one that encourages you to mix things up a little and express your creativity and passions, wherever you happen to find yourself. Don’t be afraid to combine different colours, patterns, and fabrics, but be sure to try the different combinations on first before wearing them in a formal setting.

Use quality fabrics

So, one of the biggest remaining questions is – how do you ensure that your casual tailoring is still classy rather than scruffy? The key is to use quality fabrics that have been manufactured to the very highest standards, such as those supplied by Acorn Fabrics. They have a wide variety of fabrics and designs in stock, making them ideal for those who want to bring some variety to their tailoring, and because they place a great emphasis on the quality of material and cut, it’s perfect for contemporary formal wear.

When you achieve a great casual tailored look, you’ll be at the very height of fashion, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. Here at Acorn Fabrics, we supply a wide range of fabrics for a broad array of settings and occasions, whether you’re on your way to a Spring wedding, or expressing yourself out and about on the weekends. Our casual fabrics section is a great place to start, and you can also find some fantastic options amongst our summer weights. And of course, you can always feel free to give us a call on 01282 698 662 if you have any questions, or want to place an order
